How to Scale an STL in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, Cura and Lychee

You downloaded a 120 mm model and need a 32 mm mini. The math is one division — target ÷ current × 100 — and every slicer has a box to type the result into. Here is exactly where that box lives in each one. (For the sizing theory, see the scaling guide.)

Bambu Studio

Select the model, press S or click the Scale tool in the left toolbar. Type your percentage in any axis field — with the lock icon closed, all three axes follow. Alternatively type the target height in mm straight into the Z field; Bambu recalculates the rest. Watch it in motion:

Orca Slicer

Same skeleton as Bambu (Orca is a fork): select, press S, type percentage or millimeters. Orca adds a killer extra — the calibrate/measure tool lets you click two points on the model (eyes to feet) and scale that specific span to a value, which is exactly how heroic scale is measured.

Cura

Select the model, Scale tool on the left (or S), and make sure Uniform Scaling stays ticked — unticking it is how goblins get flattened. Type 27 % or the target Z in mm. If the model imports tiny (a units issue), right-click → "Scale to fit" gets you close, then fine-tune.

Lychee (resin)

Select, open the Resize panel on the right, type millimeters or percent. Lychee shows a live bounding box readout — set the height BEFORE auto-generating supports, because supports built at the wrong scale have wrong tip sizes and will scar the sculpt.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scale an STL to 32mm in Bambu Studio?

Select the model, press S, and type the target height in millimeters into the Z field with uniform scaling locked — for a human-sized character, 32-35 mm to the eyes. Or compute target ÷ current × 100 and type the percentage.

Does scaling an STL down lose detail?

The mesh keeps its geometry; what limits detail is your printer. At 32 mm on FDM, features under ~0.3 mm blur together. Resin holds detail much further down.

Should I scale before or after adding supports?

Always scale first. Supports generated at the wrong size have wrong contact tips after rescaling — they either fail or scar the model.
